We start a new series leading up to Easter, studying the animals of Easter.
We start out in Matthew 21:1-11and our first animal is the donkey. To truly understand, we first have to reset our views of donkeys from the American/Western views of stubborn animals that are hard to deal with. When we look back in the Bible, we see where donkeys were often a symbol of peace.
When King David was dying, he requested the donkeys for Solomon to signify it was to be a peaceful transition. Donkeys were also sent with peace offerings, as seen with Jacob and Esau’s story.
Jesus rode on the donkey to fulfill the prophecy foretold about him. This also symbolized him coming in peace, as well as representing him as an offering.
