Sermon Book: James

Freshman Orientation

This week Richard focuses on God the Father as we dive a little deeper into the Trinity that we reviewed last week. There are over 150 references to God as Father in the Bible so we don’t dive into all of them, but Richard pulls out the following four qualities: comforter, compassionate, provider of what […]

The Dispersed

Drew Johnson fills in for Richard this week and brings us the next message out of James, Faith Paradox, out of James 4. Drew outlines 3 main points out of James 4 and 4 hindrances that we can encounter in our prayer life. We must remember that we are not the judge, and when we […]

The Dispersed

Richard continues “The Dispersed” this week in James 3. We tackle the often uncomfortable subject of controlling the tongue. As Christians, it often feels like it can be easy to follow “the rules” in “church settings” and break them outside the walls. James teaches us that controlling the tongue is the hardest thing to do, […]

The Dispersed

This week Richard continues through James 2:14-26 where we look at works and faith. There are some things that naturally belong together, like peanut butter and jelly, and the Bible says faith without works is dead. If we have faith, but it is not shown in the way we follow through, then what is the […]

The Dispersed

We continue our trek through James this week in James 2:1-13 this week as we look at favoritism in the Church. If we are putting people in different locations based on some sort of status, then we are guilty of casting judgement based on evil intentions. We are called to love people and let God […]

The Dispersed

Richard continues the series this week in James 1:19-27 and Matthew 7:24-27. James and Jesus both emphasize the importance of acting on the Word and not just hearing the Word. If you don’t care about those that God cares about, what its the point?

The Dispersed

Richard starts a new series this week, “The Dispersed,” and we start in James 1. This week we read where James encourages believers to endure through the trials and to realize that evil does not come from God, rather “every good and perfect gift is from above, coming from the Father of lights.”

A Message of Thanks

Richard takes on a trip through the Bible this week as we look at what is said about being thankful. We read Psalm 100, James 1:13-18, Colossians 2:4-7, and Job 42:1-6. We should be thankful for all that we do have and the only thing we should long for is a deeper relationship with Christ.
